For your hot cell, we manufacture lead blocks, profiles, modular walls (ceilings and floors) and the complete cell as a steel-lead system, depending on your requirements.
Our CNC machining and 3D water jet cutting system is used as an efficient production sequence, especially for openings for manipulators, windows and bulkheads.

The term lead shielding has various applications. Transportable storage cabinets made from several cast lead elements are referred to as lead shielding.

The same applies to systems such as gamma spectrometers or assembled lead blocks for medical or research purposes, which serve as shielding when stacked like a castle on a table.

Which lead castle do you require?

Transport and storage of radioactive materials is always a task that places high demands on the casing.

Such containers are generally used for medical or test preparations and radioactive waste from nuclear facilities.

We would be happy to advise you on various sealing techniques and stackable applications. We use PbSb4 as standard for shielding gamma radiation, but are also happy to offer custom alloys on request.

These containers, which are usually small and portable, are used for the safe transport of radioactive materials.

Using various pressing and CNC machining processes, we can offer you customised shapes and closures.

We are happy to paint these small containers according to your requirements, which not only adds colour but also provides protection against contact.

When using industrial electron beam applications, thick steel walls are often used for radiation protection. These are often insufficient, so that additional lead lining is usually required on the outside.

Such areas of application include electron beam welding chambers, which also include attachments such as pipes (lead pipe welding), vacuum pump chambers and lead-lined chamber attachments.

Here, it is important to have radiation-tight lead welding of the corner and butt seams. We achieve this with hydrogen, which creates a homogeneous connection (without impurities, as with other gases) that is equivalent to solid material. We can also achieve homogeneous lead sealing by combining lead with structural steel, which allows ceiling-mounted lead surfaces to be securely fixed in place. We create door labyrinths using high-precision pressed profiles.

MTH – expertise in chamber lead sealing from a single source!

When pumping out ozone (frequently used in the lead lining of electron beam welding chambers), gamma radiation is absorbed by the air, meaning that the steel pipes require lead lining on the outside.

These often one-off special designs are manufactured for you by our specialist staff. Only highly qualified personnel are capable of handling round parts and applying their knowledge of shrinkage during welding – and you will find such personnel at MTH!

X-ray tubes for higher beam intensities (usually > 160 KeV) often have an additional lead coating in addition to the stainless steel housing.
This is where MTH comes in. We manufacture both wrappings and cast lead jackets according to your specifications, and we are particularly happy to produce the complete steel-lead assembly. Leave the lead units to us so that you can devote your full attention to your tube technology.

Lead bricks are used as a modular system to construct protective walls, shield workstations, shield doors, laboratory tables and removable walls. Lead blocks provide radiation protection shielding with minimal effort.
MTH supplies customised shaped bricks according to drawings for the installation of manipulators or cell locks. In the standard version, we use a hard lead alloy with 4% antimony (PbSb4). On request, we can offer you lead bricks with low-level lead, which is often used in special measuring devices such as gamma spectrometers.

Lead bricks

MTH produces lead profiles as round profiles, rectangular profiles, prism profiles and M-profiles with tongue and groove. Your desired profiles are extruded on an extruder and can be cut to any length. Profiles are ideal for large-area shielding.

If required, we can create special shapes for you, which can be produced using custom-made, cost-effective press dies.

If you require further processing of your profiles or profile walls, we can do this at affordable prices using our CNC machining equipment or our 3D water jet system.

In the standard version, we use a hard lead alloy with 4% antimony (PbSb4), but other soft lead and special alloys can also be used.

MTH offers lead wool for a wide range of applications. Our lead wool is mainly used as a filling material for joints, for filling gaps and openings, and for sealing radiation passages. It also serves as soundproofing or fire protection material.
Due to its structure, lead wool is easy to work with and yet very resistant to all weather conditions.
We offer scraped lead wool made of Pb 99.97 in accordance with DIN 1719 with a thread width of 1.5-2.0 mm. The lead braids weigh approx. 1 kg and are available in 25 kg bags. Please feel free to contact us.

MTH lead solder is available in bars, rods or rings. It is pressed into a continuous profile and then cut to size according to your requirements. The shape can also be adapted depending on the application.
Our lead solder is used in radiation protection, lead accumulators and electronics. We are happy to offer you a range of different lead alloys.
